Pacific Industrial Company (PIC) is a highly regarded private company and a recognised leader in the Australian steel fabrication and construction industry. We provide steel design, fabrication and construction services to the construction, mining, oil and gas sectors Australia wide.
Currently, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced SMP/Fabrication Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for responding to invitations to tender by estimating and documenting the various costs applicable to the tender. To collate all such documents into a form suitable for presentation to the prospective client.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Update and report to the Proposals Manager on tender preparation progress and advise of any difficulties in compiling tender submissions
  • Review tender documentation to determine scope and specific terms and conditions
  • Working to the Quality Management System procedures and work instructions
  • Prepare and coordinate the subcontract components required for tender submissions
  • Take timely corrective action to address any issued non-conformances
  • Obtain highly competitive quotes for the provision of necessary materials and services
  • Undertake accurate material take-offs
  • Accurately calculate man-hour estimates, mobilisation & demobilisation costs, and plant & equipment required to specifically execute projects
  • Assist with construction scheduling and planning where required
  • Collate material take-offs and job costs into clear, well-structured spreadsheets or databases
  • Partake in tender reviews with senior management and adjust costings as required
  • Prepare professional tender submission documents in line with client and Company requirements
  • Brief the Business Unit Manager on the specifics of successful tenders and carry out internal tender 'handover' meetings of successful tenders to the Project Team
  • Assist in the calculation and production of work claims
  • Aim to further the Company's profitability and reputation for excellence and professionalism
  • Promote the Company in all dealings with current and potential clients and actively identify and seek additional work
  • Perform other general duties to suit operational requirements as directed
  • Maintain company standards for Quality Assurance purposes
  • Present neat documentation, correspondence and records as requested
  • Provide accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports as required
  • Perform other general duties that may be necessary to suit operational requirements as directed


Key Requirements
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience gained with recognised contractors working in the construction, mining and resource industries on large scale projects
  • Previous experience within the SMP or fabrication disciplines is essential
  • Trade background or relevant Engineering degree preferred
  • Excellent numerical and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
